Digital Scrapbooking Made Easy

One of things I enjoy about using the Heritage Makers’ creativity center is that it’s easy, accessible and quick. I love having access to my scrapbooking with the click of a button. I like having over 40,000 pieces of art to choose from…that I don’t have to store. And, I don’t need to design and create from scratch in photoshop. They are all beautiful pieces that coordinate together nicely, and without really even thinking about it. I LOVE the template gallery. I use that the most often!!! People think I am so creative, yet really most of the time it’s altered from a template.
I’ve recently been looking at digital kits. There are some free digital scrapbook downloads, but they are very basic. In order the get the cute stuff at an online store you need to purchase a “digital kit” which typically includes a couple backgrounds, a frame or two, and an embellishment or two. At times you get an alphabet as well. Kits range from $4 to $20 depending on the design, size of kit and designer.
So, I’ve been thinking, if I could pay $19.95 per month to have access to 40,000 pieces of art, that’s an awesome deal. If I paid even $4 per kit with 10 items in it, it would cost me $16,000 to have access to all the elements available in the Heritage Makers Premier account. Wow, it’s a steal at $19.95 per month.
I cannot believe that Heritage Makers is giving away their Premier membership for $99.95 for a whole year! With over 2000 templates, I get so many books done every month now that I’ve gone digital.

Our after dinner discovery, was on the penny. Nobody really uses pennies any more. Individuals collect them and don’t use them, while business give them out and hardly ever receive them. We were counting our hoards of pennies to send back to my husband’s work, when my son made a discovery. The “old penny” has the Lincoln Memorial on the back. Did you know that with a magnifying glass you can actually see Lincoln in the Memorial? I did the best show, but the center is not dust but Lincoln.

Tutorial Tuesday: Is my photo going to print well?
By lklipfel, January 19th, 2010,in Tutorial »Tags: heritage makers, low resolution, photos, tutorial tuesday | 6 Comments »
Photos are my life and concern about a photo printing well is important. I’ve created a video showing 4 photos from different sources, and how their size has an effect on enlarging. Yes, when printing size matters! I think this clip will help identify when size is a problem.
My photos are too small and getting red when I want to enlarge them, what can I do?
1. Set you camera to it’s largest photo setting. This will allow less photos to be stored on your camera. Counter this by downloading your photos more often, or getting a larger card.
2. Know that photos grabbed from the internet, social media, phones, and some emails, are considered low resolution. This translates to a small photo when it is printed.
3. When scanning photos, be sure to scan at least 300 dpi. Personally, I scan all my 4×6 at 600 dpi, so that I can safely stretch any photo to be on the cover of a 12×12. Any original photo that is larger than 4×6, I stay at 300 dpi.
4. If the photo has already been taken, and can’t be taken again, you will have to use it at the size taken. Some tricks for that include doing a collage page. This allows you to use several small photos to give an effect. Another idea for an important photo is creating a large border and frame around the small photo to show emphasis.
So, let your phone be a phone and your camera be a camera. Be brave and go big with your photos.
